German Aerospace Center – Institute of Transportation Systems The German Aerospace Center (DLR) with more than 5000 employees is Germany's leading aerospace research institution. It has a long and proven track record in all fields of aeronautics research. DLR has been involved in Fly-by-Wire research from its early beginnings and contributed significantly to many developments in that field. In the year 1999 the decision was made to found new research institutes within DLR to focus DLR's competence and experience in the field of ground based traffic.
The Institute of Transportation Systems focuses in the automotive branch on the human driver and his interaction with driver assistant systems. It is an explicit goal of the institute to transfer DLR's experience in avionics research onto driver assistant systems and key personnel in the institute's automotive branch has more than 10 years of experience in avionics research.
